What is the difference between asphalt and blacktop?
They are the same surface. Both are stone aggregate bound with asphalt cement. The trade says hot-mix asphalt for the plant-produced material that goes down through a paver, and blacktop is the everyday word for it. The mix design and the compacted depth are what you should be asking about.
How long will new asphalt last here?
Fifteen to thirty years is the usual span, and maintenance decides where you land in it. Cracks sealed as they open and a sealcoat every two to four years buys the top of the range. An unsealed surface with open cracks going into a Denver winter finds the bottom of it.
